This insurance is probably great for young healthy people. If you have a chronic illness, this insurance is terrible. It's like a full time job keeping up with this. And even if you can get everything submitted you still can't use it half the time.

Trying to maintain a schedule of obtaining medications is absolutely a pain. They expect you to shop around and get prescriptions moved from pharmacy to pharmacy each time for the best price. Even the screen shots they send you are not the prices charged at a pharmacy so where are they getting their data and information. This all just makes for terrible costs and wasted time trying to follow their processes. Avoid if you can.

Using the app, members can easily find the lowest-cost pharmacy in their area. That same pharmacy is typically the best option for all their prescriptions. There's usually not a need to visit multiple pharmacies for multiple prescriptions unless the member chooses to. Prescriptions are also one of the easiest ways to earn money back. Over 70% of the time, members fill at pharmacies where their prescription costs nothing or earns money back. And 24% of the time, members still pay less than a typical copay on a legacy plan. We also offer ScriptSave discount codes built into the app, and members can use any Rx discount code they'd like.

I'm not thrilled to make copies of my bill and make xtra trips to the dr's office for that. Then paying a portion of my bill out of pocket as payment plan was already set up for me..what's the point on having insurance?

You should be able to get an invoice directly from your provider either at your visit, through your provider’s online portal, or mailed or emailed to you, so there’s no need to make an extra trip to their office. We’ve also recently rolled out new options for expense submission to make things easier if getting an invoice is a challenge. You can now submit visit notes (often given at the end of your appointment or available online through your provider’s portal), among other new ways to submit. With Sidecar Health, there should never be unexpected costs. When you shop for care, you always know upfront what your plan pays and what you’ll owe — or even earn back — before your visit. And while it’s not required, choosing care at or below the Benefit Amount is a great way to make sure you never owe more for care than your deductible. The choice is truly yours. Sidecar is TRASH. If you want to over pay for a discount card or a negotiator sidecars the way. If you want them to ever cover any procedure or ER visit don’t count on it until you’ve met your full deductible. Looking up codes and researching where to go isn’t a thing until the deductible has been met. Your better off with out insurance then this overpriced negotiating trash!

Hi Rebecca, thank you for taking the time to write this review. Like many insurance plans, you’ll have to pay out of pocket until your deductible is met. However, a unique aspect of Sidecar Health is that the amount that goes towards your deductible is the Benefit Amount, not the amount you pay. So, if you find care at a price under your Benefit Amount, you save money on care while still having a greater amount count towards your deductible. I applaud the notion of being prudent with scarce health care dollars. However, a mistake on Sidecar's part (duplicating an existing expense when they requested additional info which I uploaded) somehow couldn't be fixed by them, leaving me on the hook for almost $1,200 of lab services that had already been paid for. After 48 minutes on the phone trying to remedy the situation, the supervisor to whom I requested a transfer stuck to his script and wished me a great rest of my day. As if. So I cancelled my household's participation that day. Reached out on social media with no response. Terribly disappointing overall. EDIT: Prompt received wouldn't allow comments to be added. Tagged Sidecar on LinkedIn and X. Have already spoken with "Member Care" and got exactly nowhere. Feels like more of the same. Disappointing and frustrating.

The concept of this type of health insurance is great, but in reality it cost me more than not having insurance and the customer service was sub-par at best. When I no longer needed Sidecar and requested to cancel my account, an agent was very helpful and cancelled my policy same day and informed me I would receive a partial refund for the unused billing period. Then when my husband contacted them 2 minutes later, they told him it would take a month to cancel and he would not receive a refund. When he shared the email I received confirming my refund, instead of honoring it for him they went back on their word and revoked my refund and cancellation. Every agent I spoke with said something different and even had me listed as living in a different state then I actually do. In my opinion this company needs a lot of work before they can really compete with other insurance options. If I could re-do my decision I wouldn't have signed up and instead asked my doctor for the cash-price and paid out of pocket. I ended up spending more paying for Sidecar then I would have if I just paid the cash price for my appointments.

As for expenses, many of our members find that even including the monthly premium, they still save money on healthcare expenses. A single doctor visit or procedure without insurance can cost several hundred dollars, and there is always care available in your area at or below what the Sidecar Health plan pays so you don’t pay anything out of pocket. I have been with Sidecar for a year, and the first few transactions where good. However, even when you ask your provider for an itemized bill, and they say, here is your itemized bill, Sidecar won't always accept what you provide to them. I had a chiropractor I had been going to for 10 years, and they said his rate was too high, which isn't the case, his rate is pretty standard for the area. Secondly, if I switch to another provider, they will require xrays, and initial assessment, before they will provide service, which will ultimately cost more. I am skeptical of Sidecar after a year, however, I rarely visit the doctors, so if I were anyone consider Sidecar, go with a higher deductable and pay less out of pocket and pay cash for cheaper services because they won't likely give you the full amount or barely any towards your deductable. So you may as well pay a lower premium each month.

Sidecar Health has a Benefit Amount for all medically necessary care which is the average cash price for that type of care. If you submit paperwork including all pertinent information including procedure codes and amount the provider charged, we will cover the sum of all Benefit Amounts associated with your care.
