I think it depends who you get as an advisor. My daughter's advisor was really good. My son's advisor was just ok.

My daughter's college counselor was always available to provide help and advice when it was needed. She really did a great job of taking the stress out of the college application process, making sure that all deadlines were met. She was also a great sounding board for essays and personal insight questions, ensuring that my daughter represented her best self on her college applications.

Counselor Brenna is just awesome. She indeed made a difference for Ethan’s essay development. The brainstorm with Brenna was both insightful and material. I don’t think we, as parents, can replace that role, given that we know our son too well and don’t have the “objective” perspective.

In our particular case, the counselor that worked with our son was very empathic, always very polite to manage our son responsabilities and making sure everything was on track. He made the process less heavy and more pleasant. The results are very good, regarding the application process. The only observation I would like to make is about the Wizernet that should be more user friendly and should be updated.

We signed up with Collegewise the summer before our son's senior year to get assistance with the Common App essay and help with creating a list of colleges that were a good match for our son. The help with the essay was fantastic. The process was smooth and involved much less angst than it would have if we'd tried to help him ourselves. The Collegewise counselor helped him frame his ideas and the editors gave him good feedback he could easily use to improve the essay. In the end, our son had a good essay that was honestly written by him. I was less impressed with the help building the college list. We paid for 1.5 hours of assistance which is perhaps not enough time as I didn't feel the list the counselor provided really reflected our son. So maybe either skip this or pay for more hours so you can get a more thoughtful list.

Some of the counselors are really good and engaged w the students. But some services are ok such as course selection guidance, extra-curricular activities

Our twin sons connected with Katie S. in their Freshman year. She was able to expertly guide us all through the high school years and college application process. The boys felt more confident in their thoroughly researched options, and so did we. Kudos to Collegewise and Katie for such a positive experience!

Our counselor, Samantha, was so helpful during the college application process. She guided and advised my son from application writing to acceptance and it was well worth the money.
