Hate this company!!! Made my life a nightmare for over 6 years for nothing. Could have settled my claim... instead gave me the run around, I hired lawyers, my hone was burned but fixable, went to trial and won!!! Too bad the home has been torn down by the city, my mortgage went into foreclosure and I literally moved 15 times, sometimes living in a storage unit. Shame on them!!!! I purchased my policy from a licensed agent, I know nothing about insurance and they had the nerve to tell me to read the fine print. Karma.

After reading the multiple reviews from frustrated policy holders, I've found I am not alone by far! I've had my policy for several years and have had a claim with Universal several years ago. When the adjuster arrived, it seemed they were intent on denying coverage in every way possible even though according to the adjuster what "is" covered in my home (from their own words & policy), the agent started to backtrack the information so they may not have to. We had to cover it out of pocket to get it done so there wasn't more damage, even though my policy says otherwise. This apparently is quite typical of Universal as I've learned. Take the money, wiggle out of covering customers, poor service, and delayed responses. I'm positive I may get their generic response given to everyone from my review. Also, in my opinion it looks like their rating is false. Their 3.1 rating is likely inaccurate thanks to their underwriters and employees praise leaving 5 star reviews of course. Muddled between every 5-8 consumer reviews is a stellar review of the company from an agent or representative. An example, just last night as I was posting this, after reading reviews, right above a negative appeared a policy writer bashing their competitor and praising Universal Property. They should not be allowed to do this as it is deceptive on the accuracy of service provided to actual customers. Terrible. I wonder if they tell them to post their glowing reviews?? Wow... *Update* We had a claim prior to hurricane Irma in Central Florida that was due to falling debris. Universal had all relevant documentation and multiple contractor quotes. They delayed resolving this for 3 months due to an unrelated issue that had nothing to do with the actual claim itself. (it was a typo from 1 of the 5 contractors bids that were submitted, which we weren’t required to give 5 estimates but were wanting to show more than 3 for fairness.) So our family had to go through a category 3 hurricane without the repairs complete ensuring our personal safety and the stability of our homes structural integrity because of a typo. Unbelievable.

1. I called the customer service to get the status of the snow damages. The lady was very rude. Told me she not allowed to give the status. I ask to transfer to the claim adjuster answer “ she not allowed “ but she can give me the name and phone ext and I need to hang up and call again. I called her voicemail stated:” when you like to have information about your claim please call Customer service” so first told me she not allowed to give status than the voicemail tell me I need to call customer service Do not make any sense. I left on the extension 13 messages never return any send 15 e-mail no answer. Maybe is cheaper but is not quality . Today told me again do not know the status and not answering until finish. Is almost the months when the inspector was send the report. Top on this without any notice suspend my account because the 50$ balances which do not know how? I do not check the website never noticed. I told to send the mortgage the bill because is a escrow - told me I need to take care it. So I payed but was very upset.
