I was charged 115 dollars then a few days later was charged 295. I signed up to get one month free through jumpspeak and was charged the full price anyway. (295)I don't know what the 115 was for.I attempted to contact them twice through support email and have not received a response. They do not have a support phone number.

I tried it for a month and it wasn't for me. However, it is set to auto-renew by default and so it billed me for the next month (179.99). It hit my bank two days later and I contacted support and asked to get it canceled and refunded however they literally have a 2 day no refund policy with no exceptions. Very shady!!!

I have been a Chinese teacher with them for more than one year. I don’t get lots of students, and so far, they have not paid me nothing. They used a booking system before the new one, but the classes I taught with the old system is not counted. I am so disappointed with their service. They try to get more students, but at the same time, they treat the Teachers like trash! Rype commented that they have contacted me privately, but I haven’t received any email or whatever from them except 70 dollar promotion Ad. I have submitted emails to Trustpilot, and they approved my review to show to people. Rype claimed that I am using fake alias, no, I am not fake. I taught many students from South America, USA, Mongolia etc on Rype. They keep lying. Now they even call me fake. Lol.

WOW! It's horrible!!! Almost impossible to cancel/delete your subscription. It's not even immediate. The whole idea is horrible as well, they are just offering private lessons like iTalki. I wouldn't even say it's cheap.

Buyer beware Rype is a total scam I canceled within the trial period and they refused to refund the amount of over $569.00. Don’t waste your time it’s not worth it you are not getting what you pay for with Rype. I used the service during the trail Rype still charged my credit card after I tried to cancel. They make it very difficult to cancel. Updated: I got a refund from my bank after I filed a dispute but not from Rype which has a ZERO refund policy. I tried the service and canceled I requested a refund from the company and Cynthia emailed me several times stating they couldn’t refund over $500. The instructions had very poor English skills and were very fluent in English therefore it was difficult to learn a new language. Rype isn’t a good company in my opinion. I tried to work with the company and they refused. They only offered a refund AFTER I posted a negative review.

Hi Lea! Thank you for your comment. Our team has been navigating back to see what happened, and we discovered an email thread between you and our customer support team. It looks like when you sent an email over to us on January 17, our customer support team discovered that you booked several lessons after your trial period has ended. Per our terms of use, we require you to cancel those lessons with our teachers before we can process your cancellation. The reason being, we are still required to pay our teachers for those scheduled lessons. At the time of this writing, those lessons that were booked past your free trial date are still shown as actively booked, and we have paid your teacher for that lesson time. According to our teacher, it seems that you were looking to book the lessons outside of our marketplace platform which goes against our policy, as we cannot pay our teachers if the lessons are not tracked on our platform. Despite the violation of our policies, we would be happy to resolve this situation given the inconvenience and refund the charges made. Please let us know Lea!

I signed up for a 7-day trial period with Rype in late December 2019. I signed up for several classes with two teachers. One of them repeatedly didn't show up for my classes. Within three days of signing up for the trial period, I went on the website to cancel my trial. I canceled the membership both via an email communication sent via Rype's website and via the "cancel membership" button on the billing page. I never booked a class since. I assumed that was the end of the matter. To my surprise, a few days later, Rype charged my credit card over $500! Their webpage states that they have a "no refund" policy. I filed a complaint with the BBB (which has a record of several other complaints regarding Rype's questionable billing practice). Be very careful with this company.

Rype is a SCAM. You will be able to sign up for free trials but they will request your payment. It will be difficult to unsubscribe and you will find that you have been locked into costly repeat payments. Stay away. Subscription traps are common with gyms, music and video streaming services and delivery services and now it has reached online language learning.

Hi Lucas, Sorry to hear you feel this way. Yes we do ask for your billing information, and we let customers know that they will be billed after their 7-day free trial if they decide to continue. We ask for this information so that we don't interrupt a customer's experience should they decide to continue their membership (and most do!). If we didn't, we would have to cancel the lessons that students book after their 7-day trial, which would be an inconvenient experience, especially at scale. Customers on the free trial can cancel anytime during the 7 days (most people know within the first 2 days whether it's a good fit for them) and in addition, we offer a 7-day money back guarantee (after the 7-day trial, so 14 days total) which gives you 2 weeks to evaluate the service, risk-free. Given that we have to still pay our teachers during the free trial, we do ask for the billing information in order to ensure that customers that do sign up are not abusing the system and that we can deliver the most qualified customers as possible to our teachers.
