It's a good way to earn a little extra money each month if you're an animal lover The app definitely could use some improvements however, especially as the company take such a large commission on your bookings. It is also definitley geared towards supporting the pet owners more than the sitters which can be frustrating.

In principle, the concept can work well. The provisions for payment and insurance etc., are good and secure. Where the system does not work so well is that sitters/ walkers do not keep their calendars up to date. This means you can waste hours (literally) sending contact requests only to be told of unavailability. That practically means sending out a broadcast to a handful of sitters and see who is available, if any at all. There are proportionally very few competent or comfortable to take care of dogs 20-80kg and even fewer prepared for house-sitting. Not easy to find someone for my needs. I would prefer to use a site that I could place an advert for my needs and sitters could 'bid' to supply the service.

The mobile phone app is ok but could do with huge improvements. The main thing that I found incredibly annoying was not being able to scroll up to previous message threads to check details that my sitter had sent me about various things. The app forces you down to the latest thread after three or four seconds so you are reading something you had previously received and suddenly the app automatically scrolls back down to the latest message thread. It was particularly annoying when I was trying to read a longer message. It was also noticeable when I was trying to look at photographs.

I am a pet sitter, have been for over 10 years running my own business. I joined Pawshake a few years ago and got some work but not a lot from there. Unfortunately the site and app is just not good, it’s clunky, messages don’t always appear and clients can’t book one first visit (ie pm visit) and then book several am/pm visits. They have to pay extra for a visit that won’t happen as there’s no flexibility. A lot of my clients will have me start the evening of their trip and finish the morning they get back with two visits a day in between. I contacted them a long time ago about it as it’s frustrating. They also claimed I went off platform and got 3 warnings. Going back to emails from 2020, I only had one warning recently and, as my English isn’t always strong, I explained to a client that if they were to book with me, and they had to cancel due to family emergency, it wouldn’t be a problem. All this came about because the cancellation policies are not very flexible to pet sitters or clients and from what I’ve read, the refund process is not smooth. I’ve haven’t been off Pawshake and they haven’t explained why I got banned since I only have one warning and the client ended up not going on holiday in the end so didn’t need me.

I booked a sitter through Pawshake for the 8th to 15th September 2023 On the 4th of September I received a message from Pawshake to say that my sitter had cancelled. 4 days before I was due to go on a family holiday On their website there is a "Pawshake Guarantee" which states that if a sitter cancels at short notice, "please contact us immediately so we can help you look for a replacement Pawshake sitter" I immediately replied on the 4th of September asking what I could do. Their way of "helping" me find a replacement, was to send me a link to their website and profiles so I could find a sitter myself. This is not helpful! I was unable to find an appropriate new sitter and, as a result one of my family members had to stay at home and take care of the animals instead of coming on holiday with us We lost his flight costs of £330 and his share of the villa we had booked which was £257. We were left out of pocket and a family member missed the holiday. We are not a wealthy family and cannot afford to go away very often and had to save for this trip for a long time :( **UPDATE - AFTER SPEAKING WITH PAWSHAKE, I HAVE NOW BEEN COMPENSATED. NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE AT THE TIME BUT THE RESOLUTION SHOWS VERY GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE DEALING WITH THE ISSUE**

Si l expérience avec la garde de mes chats était sympathique ATTENTION ! Les gardiens ne sont pas assurés contre les dommages qu ils pourraient causer. La réparation de la poignée de ma porte-fenêtre m est revenue à 475€ .

My dog was super aggressive

My experience with the actual booking system was actually a bit tricky there issues with my messages going through and when I contacted support the answer was a bit rude and off hand. But the person that was my sitter was good at communicating once I managed to get my messages through.
